    Superb

There is nothing not to like about the Viking. Everything is first class. Have stayed there a number of times and will go back some more.

No complaints except the price is high but that is Newport in July.

We have stayed in a lot of hotels during the past year and the Viking was amongst the best. It has old world charm but is beautifully maintained with gleaming old wood floors, library and parlors that are updated and comfortable. It was fun to sit opposite the front desk and watch the other guests and parties come and go. We enjoyed the restaurant with its easy access for dinner. Our room was decorated in a light and airy manner while maintaining some old world charm in its wallpaper and rug. Everyone was extremely polite and very helpful in every way. We would definitely plan to stay there again when we come to Newport. It also has very easy walking access to town and the Cliff Walk and all the homes open to visit.

I would only make two suggestions. I didn't like the lighting in the new corridors as it is a bit yellow and not bright and cheery as the others. Also, I would like to see easier access to tea in the morning and afternoon instead of coffee.

Off season prices go way down. Great value not a lot of people.

The room we had was tooooo small. Splurg for the bigger room its not much more.

I liked the architecture of the building. I'm a builder so I enjoy staying in places with character. It's in close proximity to the shoppes and restaurants.

    Superb

The location in the heart of Newport, the thoughtfulness, courtesy, and effeciency of the staff (for example, there was a minor electrical problem that was taken care of diligently and well), the utter cleanliness.

I have found the quality of the food at the Restaurant attached to the hotel to be lagging behind whereas the service was excellent. The quality of the food - bland and quite mediocre - does not do justice to the reputation of the hotel, otherwise well-deserved. The average quality of the ingredients used may explain the culinary results.

The Staff were excellent and made you you feel very welcome. Also the food in the resturant was of high quality and good valve for money.

    Superb

Comfortable, elegant, great spa and pool, dinner in on-site restaurant was creative, outstanding, really; easy walk to mansions, harbor, shops and galleries, well maintained, green sensibilities, helpful and courteous staff; personal, not corporate feel

    I am always disappointed to have to pay for wireless internet-but it was easy to use;

Very nice building and lovely entrance hall. Good breakfast. Good location location, which is within walking distance of the harbour area with good restaurants etc.

I didn't like the fact that my children were allocated a dank prison of a room with no window at all (so no ventilation, no daylight and no means of escape in the event of a fire in the corridor outside). I didn't like the smell of damp that pervades the corridors and the bedrooms. I didn't like the attitude of somer of the staff. It was too expensive at $500/night.

great location, staff very helpful, daughter has food allergies and the chef would cook her a special meal every morning and nite

rooftop bar closes to early,we would come from downtown around 10:15 pm and the bar was closed. We would go to the one by the lobby

The room was lovely. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful.

The restaurant staff was extremely slow and inattentive...took forever to be seated for breakfast because none of the tables were being bussed. No one seemed to be rushing to move things along. Had to wait quite a while for the valet to bring our car...couldn't find it.

    Very good

The hotel had nice amenities . I thought the room a bit small for the fee. The resturant services were a bit on the non personal side, the night we stayed the service staff seemed to be a little unattentive at times. The baquet room was standard .

Location was perfect for dining and shopping all over Newport. Staff was very friendly especially the young men that brought our car when needed. Personality plus!! always greeted us by name.

We were originally put in a room on the first floor and the noise from above kept us from sleeping. Once moved to the third floor our room was lovely. The front desk took care of this problem immediately!!! Thank you.

I thought the rooms weren't that special given the price.

    Superb

It is in a great location in Newport and was very reasonably priced during the Winter Festival weekend. It was a busy hotel with a couple of weddings that weekend and the health and wellness show Saturday. The room was spacious and had a really comfortable bed and decorated beautifully. The hotel is also beautifully decorated and staff is accomodating. The room amenities included a hair dryer and a dual sided magnifying pull-out mirror, which is very rare in most luxury hotels, and for someone nearsighted like myself, I really appreciated that!!

We had a main floor room which had a tiny bathroom which was divided across the room--one side with an almost child height toilet and the bathtub/shower in a seemingly closet space. (Our son and daughter-in-law in the exact room one floor above had a very nice bath space we were told.) The sink was in the same space as the closet. Saturday when we arrived, the executive chef was off premises for the Winter Festival Chili cookoff, which he won, but the restaurant was running slow and the manager well-made up for the time with comping us cocktails and the chef came out personally with appetizers for us!! Minor problems corrected and acknowledged quickly!!
